This is a known bug: When I looked at the test infrastructure in
3.79.1, the documentation said loud and clear that it was not in
very workable, and asked for volunteer help to bring it up to
date. (It made me consider furthering the good cause by rewriting
the whole ting using DejaGnu, but I had to decide I didn't have the
time - and still don't).

As far as I can tell, the test suite is not even being maintained
in its current shape: I later contributed a patch for some bugs I'd
found, with enclosed test scripts to demonstrate the bugs in 3.79.1
and that my patch actually seems to fix them. 3.80rc1 has my patch
applied to the code but my test scripts are gone. Not that I complain,
just mentioning it as a data point for Soren (Søren?).
