Update of bug #42930 (project make):

                  Status:                    None => Works for me           
             Open/Closed:                    Open => Closed

Follow-up Comment #1:

This bug was fixed in GNU make 3.81, released in 2006.  I verified the
makefile above works as expected in both 3.81 and the current release version
GNU make 4.0.
