Follow-up Comment #2:

I've fixed this for the next release.  I don't have access to anything older
than Visual Studio 2010, and I don't use Windows anyway.  If you want to
ensure that GNU make continues to compile properly on older versions of Visual
Studio I urge you to participate by downloading and attempting to build the
pre-releases when they're announced (on the address@hidden mailing list) in
your environment.  That's the only way to be sure these problems won't
re-appear.  Thanks for the report!
