You also should be able to get back the old behavior by adding the
--jobserver-style=pipe option to your make invocation.

will do that, - thx

And run now into (had --shuffle set):

rm -f /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.36-r1/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stamp.op; > /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.36-r1/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stamp.op rm -f /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.36-r1/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stamp.oS; > /var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.36-r1/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stamp.oS
make subdir=csu -C csu ..=../ subdir_lib
make: invalid shuffle mode: '1662909020r'
make[1]: *** [Makefile:485: csu/subdir_lib] Error 2 shuffle=1662909020
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.36-r1/work/glibc-2.36'
make: *** [Makefile:9: all] Error 2 shuffle=1662909020

Without --shuffle the make here goes well.
