I expect it builds, but will return an error from the vsscanf stub.
Looking at trio, it does seem a lot of overkill, and I'm debugging
a much smaller solution that I expect would be less maintenance effort.

I saw the part about the LDFLAGS, that's on my list still. I guess you're
saying that that's required for the test programs?
