Sorry, this is entirely a MacOS 10.5 issue. Setting up the
environment in a standard way just doesn't work, especially for
X11. Nice example: the system bashrc sources a script that puts
/usr/local _after_ /bin and /usr/bin, it's called path_helper.sh
...
ATM I am calling X11 from another terminal emulator, because
otherwise even login doesn't seem to call a login shell, duh ...
again sorry, I stop ranting, entirely off-topic here.
