parted mkpartfs on IA-64 warning

On an IA-64 Linux system, parted 1.4.11 + 2 GPT patches.
 parted /dev/sdb mkpartfs p ext2 1000 1001

This completes fine, but, when I go to mount /dev/sdbX, I get from the
address@hidden tmp]# mount /dev/sdb3 /mnt/disk1

EXT2-fs warning: feature flags set on rev 0 fs, running e2fsck is

address@hidden tmp]# e2fsck /dev/sdb3
e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
/dev/sdb3: clean, 11/12672 files, 413/25344 blocks

I've tried with various sizes of partitions, all fail the same way.
I've made a 1MB file system with the mkpartfs command that exhibits this
behavior, and have placed it at
http://domsch.com/linux/parted/parted-ia64-mkpartfs-failure.bin.gz if Andrew
or anyone else can look at it.
