Drive number and minor number

Greetings,

I hope this isn't a FAQ, I've not been able to find a conclusive answer to 
my question. I'm wondering if the minor number from parted is the same as 
the drive number from df. Example, if I have /dev/sdb1 from df does it 
correspond to minor #1 in parted, /dev/sdb2 to minor #2, etc?
