Guys,
I have a 40 GB disk on my laptop were I previously was using WIndows 2000 PRO
and Redhat Linux 9.0 with dual boot.
I had a NTFS partition on /dev/hda1, a Linux boot (ext3) partition on
/dev/hda2, a root
partition on /dev/hda3 (ext3) and a Linux swap partition on /dev/hda4
- I removed partition /dev/hda1 and /dev/hda4.
- I created a new partition /dev/hda1 with ext3 where the NTFS partition was. I
migrated successully my /dev/hda2 & /dev/hda4 to /dev/hda1.
- Test if Redhad Linux 9 could boot properly from the new /dev/hda1; no
problems.
So I have now a single partition, why? I used linux on my notebook, only I have
access to the notebook and there are only two users on my Linux, namely root
and
julio. I don't need/want many different partitions, etc..... I would like to
used my disk
for whatever I feel for. At the end it's just a single user workstation for me.
My partition look as:
---------------------------------
(parted) print
Disk geometry for /dev/hda: 0.000-38154.375 megabytes
Disk label type: msdos
Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags
1 0.031 20002.807 primary ext3
---------------------------------
- I boot my computer with the Redhat CD and run it in rescue mode without
mounting
my filesystem.
- And try to resize like this (leaving some room for a new swap partition):
---------------------------------
(parted) resize 1 0.031 36000
No implementation. This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout! Parted
can't
resize this (yet).
---------------------------------
- Because that did not work I turned off journalling as
---------------------------------
#tune2fs -O ^has_journal /dev/hda1
---------------------------------
and tried the aboved procedure again with the same result.
Does anybody has a hint to where my problem can be?? The strangest thing of all
is
that I deleted the old partitions (/dev/hda1, dev/hda2,/dev/hda3,/dev/hda4) and
created my new ext3 partition on /dev/hda1 with parted.
Any comments regarding this issue is very welcome.
