Is there hope for ReiserFS support in libparted anytime soon?

It is there for few years already. You need to install progsreiserfs first (ftp://ftp.namesys.com/pub/libreiserfs/progsreiserfs-0.3.0.5.tar.gz) and then build parted with reiserfs support turned on.
But it seems that progsreiserfs is completely unmaintained or something, at
Yury is the maintainer (previous poster) and he released the above version
"recently" (in April) that supposed to fix problems.

Ok, well, i didn't follow the whole story about it, i never had any interest
in reiserfs myself, and the echo of powerpc users with it was rather poor.

least it has been kicked out of debian/sarge recently because of bugginess,
which forced me to remove reiserfs support in the compiled version of parted
in debian sarge.
In the past there were several corruption problems posted all over the net but only one here (not from debian) but I've never seen any usable
bug reports (exact error messages, versions used, etc).

You mean this one :
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=244169

The problem is maybe with the debian maintainer of this package, which has let
this RC bug open for 146 days, without ever interacting with it.

I understand Yury that he can't debug things if nobody tells him. E.g.
what if all users run it on a mounted partition and they ignored the
parted warning (fixed, it can't be ignored anymore) or it was used on
devfs but parted couldn't detect the mount state? There were such fixes in parted recently, AFAIR, but Debian still uses an old parted.

Sure, we probably need a new debian maintainer for progreiserfs, and then the
problem could be solved. I won't do this, and it may even be too late this
late in the debian release process, but one never knowes.

Friendly,

Sven Luther
hm... If that is powerpc, than it is for sure some problems about bit operations (bitmap) which need correct endian stuff... May be that is the problem?

If so, then I also remember, that when I was working for NAMESYS, there were similar problems with reiserfsprogs and it appeared, that debian ppl just incorrectly patched original package. They did changes in bitops stuff and reiserfsprogs did not work too.
