You found a bug in GNU Parted. Please email a bug report to address@hidden <mailto:address@hidden> containing the version (1.6.15), and the following message: The sector size on /dev/hdd is 2048 bytes. Parted is known not to work properly
with drives with sector sizes other than 512 bytes

Warning: Unable to open /dev/hdd read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/hdd
has been opened read-only.
Error: Unable to open /dev/hdd - unrecognised disk label.
Information: Don't forget to update /etc/fstab, if necessary.
Is this a real bug that should be reported?

It all depends what is you hdd. If it's a cdrom/dvd it's normal it can't open it read-write. I think newer version of parted don't report this as a bug but you can't do much on a read-only partition anyway!

You probably want to start parted with another device that is your actual hard drive : Probably one of these

If it's not your dvd/cdrom drive and that it's not mount read-only then you found a real bug ;)
