Upon what rationale did you build this absolute answer?
I would say common-sense? IMHO, I would think that
"reading" the disk should mean zero writing to disk.
Why would parted write anything to disk when it is
just reading from it? Writing should not be necessary, and
I think that if it is, then that should be fixed.
On first thought I'd answer "hardly", but that's hardly a proof
for "no"... did you check the code?
Now I am. :)
