So I'm not sure what's next. When I "list" I get: No symbol table is loaded. 
Use the "file" command.

When I do "up" and get to the ped_assert line, then "list" I still get: No 
symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command.

And "p ped_assert" produces:

$1= {<text variable, no debug info>} 0x7ffff7b6ef80 <oed_assert>
