Or use -p, like this:

pushd rpm-$rpm_version/beecrypt-$beecrypt_version
# apply beecrypt patches
patch -p2 -i ...
popd

pushd rpm-$rpm_version/db-$db_version
# apply db patches
patch -p2 -i ...
popd
