Thanks for your help. Both readline from source and the Mageia readline package
are working fine with this patch properly applied. I submitted a new Mageia

That put aside, these patches were not easy to learn about. I believe it would
be a better idea to mint a new release of GNU readline (say "6.3.1" or "6.4")
instead which will have all the necessary patches applied. Otherwise, I'd
expect questions like that to be asked more in the future, and like
Joel-on-Software says here, one should "fix every problem two ways":
