Dear Bug-Readline / Chet,
I've been thinking that it would be good if it were possible for users
to bind key combinations to 'system()' commands in .inputrc. Is this a
possible improvement for which a patch would be accepted?
For example I would like to bind some keys to copy the Readline cut
buffer to the X clipboard, or paste the X clipboard into Readline.
However, rather than introducing a dependency in Readline upon X, I
think it makes more sense to allow users to bind keys to shell scripts
which can do these things.
I find that the existing options for getting text between Emacs and
Readline and my browser are rather cumbersome, and would welcome a way
to configure a better solution.
Also see this thread:

Thoughts appreciated.
Thank you,
Frederick
