I am unaware of this.  What keystroke and why does it work?

In readline, editing commands can be `undone' by running the `undo'
command, which is usually bound to ^_ in emacs mode. Since the
bracketed paste text is inserted as a unit, it's treated as a single
editing command that can be undone.
