[Bug-tar] "Name in archive contains .."

Please excuse me if this is not the correct forum for this question. If
that's the case please advice me where to go.

I've made an archive of a large part of my harddisk as a backup when doing
a system recovery. However, when trying to restore the files in the
archive I get the message:

"Name in archive contains .."

When I made the archives I had to make them on a different partition than
where the files were. Thus I used a command like:

tar cvf archive.tar ../Documents

When doing the reverse:

tar xvf archive.tar

I get the above error message. Anyone got an idea on how to retreive my
files?
