The hex dumps in my bug report indicate that it's a bug in the creation
step.
Looks like 'tar' tried to write n KB (n > 2) to volume01, succeeded in writing
the first 2 KB of it but not more, and then, when writing to volume02, it had
"forgotten" that it had already written 2 KB from this n KB block.
