[Bug-tar] tar 1.15.91 --checkpoint issues

man page says:

--checkpoint      print directory names while reading the archive

which is indeed what i want because this doesn't have much meaning when slogging
thru a 300GB tar tape!:

tar: Read checkpoint 156005

also, i know info pages are the main documentation source but man page
should at least mention new argument:

--checkpoint[=[.]count]    print directory names (or .) every 10 (or
count) records while reading the archive
