Hmm, in looking at the truss output more carefully,
it appears that you're running /usr/bin/tar.
Can you please arrange for the test to run the
tar that you built instead?  You can do that by
modifying the test case, replacing the two instances
of "tar" with the full path name of the just-built
tar command.
