I have no precise idea on that question, and I have no idea if this
option is actually set by users or not.

I do not remember clearly, but when we released the first Perl version,
there was the idea that the texi2html mode could be used as a
replacement of texi2html. Nowaday, this is not really important.

That's historical, I think there was rev before, but no more, either
because it was an incorrect use or because it is deprecated. The name
could be changed to include only REL, but I do not think that it
matters much, not changing the name seems better to me if we keep the
option.
