Wget2 bootstrap and "Unknown option: --"

Hi Everyone/Tim,

Are you guys interested in this? It's from a Ubuntu 4 system. Python
is there, but it is antique.

What I have found is, the best way to check Python's version is
'python -V'. It works on old and new Python.

./bootstrap: Please install the prerequisite programs

And:

$ python --version
Unknown option: --

$ python -V
Python 2.3.4
