Hi,

I am packaging GNUnet for various platforms, currently Guix, and
while updating the package I talked with others involved in
SecuShare and also with Christian, and we came to the conclusion
that the appended description is more up to date.

Part of the conversation which started in psyced and ended up in
mailinglists can be seen here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.gnunet.devel/2371

I still have problems with how to include the svn vs release
tarballs version statements in the description. Can this be
included in some way in the description sitting on gnu.org?

New Description of GNUnet:

GNUnet is a framework for secure, distributed, peer-to-peer
networking. The high-level goal is to provide a strong foundation of free
software for a global, distributed network which provides security and
privacy. GNUnet in that sense aims to replace the current internet protocol
stack. Along with an application for secure publication of files, it has
grown to include all kinds of basic applications for the foundation of a GNU
internet.

gnunet-0.10.1 is the last stable release candidate, however for
development purposes and keeping up with latest changes, the SVN version
might be preferable until a new version is released.

note:

The text starting with "gnunet-0.10.1 (...)" might be unfit for a
static description. I am open to sugestions on how to handle this
the best way so that differences can be displayed in Guix
packages. If differences should be obvious I am also open to
leaving out this statement.

thanks,
