The drive is entitled to do this, i fear.

So we have at least one drive of each combination:
- My ASUS BW-16D1HT (and others) always says it will do Stream Recording
  and always does.
- My LG GGC-H20L says it will not do Stream Recording with CD but actually
does not complain and writes a CD-RW properly if libburn uses Stream
  Recording.
- Your drive MATSHITA UJ862A in the T400 laptop says it will not do
and really throws an error if libburn tries to do.
- Your drive MATSHITA UJ8C0 in the W530 laptop says that it will do
Stream Recording but throws a misleading error if libburn tries.

I am now testing the bug fix about better listening to what the drive
announces, and also the restriction of Stream Recording to DVD-RAM,
BD-R, and BD-RE for safety with drives like your UJ8C0.

If you want, you may now post the result as answer to askubuntu.com.
The "technical diagnosis" in my mail

is still valid, including the statement

It is not yet decided whether Stream Recording will be omitted with all
media types except DVD-RAM, BD-R, and BD-RE. For now it seems that no
other remedy is possible for the drive which caused this question here.

although i strongly tend towards this safety precaution.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas
