Still crashes for me. luaposix at github has no changes, so I don't
know if you forgot to push a patch there too?

I have all my personal rc files in an encrypted disk image, which
MacOS mounts to /Volumes/MyStuff. My home directory then has softlinks:

  lrwxr-xr-x  1 502 20 Apr  6 12:30 .mutt -> MyStuff/dotrc/mutt
  lrwxr-xr-x  1 502 20 Feb  5 10:48 MyStuff -> /Volumes/MyStuff

And in /Volumes:

  drwx------ 32 502 20 Apr  6 16:21 MyStuff
  lrwxr-xr-x  1   0 80 Apr 12 19:59 Macintosh HD -> /

I initially discovered the crash when saving, after opening a buffer
to ~/.mutt/muttrc, so I thought it might be the softlinks that Zile
was choking on, but the crash is the same if I edit and then save
~/MyStuff/dotrc/mutt/muttrc or indeed /Volumes/MyStuff/dotrc/mutt/muttrc.

I suppose it should be possible to set up a similar testcase on Linux
with the loopback filesystem over a writeable disk image?

Unfortunately, there's not much else to go on... I press ^X^S, the
terminal bell rings and drops me back at the shell prompt.

If I can get any additional info to help you track that down, please
do ask!
