Well, now it I get another question:  does awful egg accepts irregex syntax instead of regex egg one? The documentation still suggests the use of regex egg.

AFAIK awful uses POSIX-style rather than SRE but since regex is a thin wrapper over irregex I suspect the result of an irregex constructor will be accepted.
