Does anybody know a serialization framework which is free and not integrated into th JRE?

Hi there!

Does anybody know a java-1.1 compatible serialization framework which
is not integrated into a jre's classpath, so that it can be used just
as any other external library.
I would need such a library for also supporting older jvms like msjvms
or netscape jvms :(

It would be great of course if the library would be free as speech ;-)
