I could be wrong, but to the best of my understanding "disparaging" means
  "expressing the opinion that something is of little worth".

And it seems your emails (to multiple mailing lists) express the opinion
that xz is inadequate. Isn't that the correct term ?
It does not imply your opinion on xz is incorrect, nor that lzip is worse or 
better.

Put in context of the discussion,
what I meant is resending these emails (while factual as they are)
does not help to encourage people (or at least me) to adopt lzip.
