It's gdb that has the remote debugging protocol support, not ddd.

With that in mind, first see if you can get gdb to communicate with
the remote system, without ddd even being in the mix.  Only when you're
sure that's working should you add the complexity of ddd sitting on top
of gdb.

There is documentation on gdb remote debugging, gdbserver, and the
protocol.  That's probably the best place to start.

Good luck, and report back on your results please.
