Would it help if we made it a configure option to compile with libsmf that is installed on the users systems? It is there because at the time many distros didn't have it in there repositories.

Thanks a lot for this. Is this one of the issues that makes your work
packaging for Denemo harder than it need be?

Well, last time it was not, because I did not know about it :). Now
maybe it will be (it was added to my TODO list :P ).

The main problem of the versions previous to the 0.9.0, was my
personal lack of free time :(.

For the 0.9.0 version, the harder part was to re-check copyrights of
all the files, in order to update the debian/copyright[0] file in
order to use the new format proposed in the DEP-5 [1].

There were other updates (debian/changelog[2] version 0.9.0-1), but
most of them are debian-packaging/debian-policy related.

If there is anything we can
do to help please ask (we are attracting a bit more expertise now, so I
hope it will be worthwhile asking).

In general, the main issue packaging denemo in Debian is that Denemo
uses an internal copy of libsmf[3][4] (right now both are exactly the
same) and the Debian Policy[5] states that: "... packages should not
make use of these convenience copies ...". So the debian packages uses
the shared library[4], but if (in the future) there is a change in the
internal copy of libsmf in Denemo, and this change is not in the
"shared library libsmf" this will be a problem for the maintainer of
the package.

It seems to me that you(rshann) sent the changes(the last denemo's
changes) to the original developer of libsmf, so thank you for doing
that.

Thank you all, for your work in Denemo.

Cheers,
