It's also important to note that the open source development model is
different from free/libre software philosophy.
Practically, they might bring the same results, and most results from
open source projects are also free/libre, although the mindset and goals
of the project don't always guarantee that the result will respect the
essential freedoms defined by the free/libre software movement.
It's very interesting to see, however, how such open source projects
react when non-(free/libre) projects (or even closed source ones) adapt
their free/libre result. Either they:
* Endorse the usage of the non-(free/libre) adaptation in their official
resources.
* Act immediately aggressive towards the adaptation (possibly making
society take "fear of open source" due to aggressive copyright
enforcement).
* Don't do anything to fix the issue (acting like if the
non-(free/libre) adaptation never existed).
* Try to "anticipate" this issue and go "all permissive" when choosing
licenses. Thus leaving the end-user a target of vendor lock-in and
unfair/injust power/control given to the owner/proprietor of the
non-(free/libre) adaptation.
There are more differences, but if you want to know more please, let us know.
