Hi Walter,

this depends on a bajillion things--d'board, tx gain, waveform,
frequency and of course the method you're using to 'register a cell
phone'. Perhaps you're using OpenBTS? That definitely works decently
with a USRP1.

Also, please have a look at
before asking such questions on this list.
