If you want Linux go for Suse or Red Hat. The chance is better that someone
will help you if he is using a similar setup.
PostgreSQL is running on MacOS X 10.x and should also on X 10.x server (the new
one, not the one that used Display Postscript)
We use NetBSD as preferred platform here, but we compile the releases also on
Suse and Solaris etc.
