Ttext doesnt work properly even when not scaled!

To try and fix my font stuff I took all the scaling and
translation out of my code. SOo it now dras straight
into an unmodified view with a font.

Now I get character 17 placed on top of character 16!

I am using a font size of "15.7895" for this. Experimentation
shows that its the non integer font size which causes the grief
in this case (it works for 15 and 16) but I am failing to understand
why.
