I know someone had done some preliminary work on a CairoGraphics backend as well. How has this progressed, if at all? This would be very nice!
It was suspended. I was at trying to finish initclip (ie. by reset the pixmap buffer, there's no standard api for initclip in cairo) and http://maliwan.sourceforge.net/cairo-shot.jpg is still the last shot of it (you will see no clipping). After that I'll start working on text-api and the image drawing parts...
But I don't have enough time for cairo-back now because I'm busy working on cmyk soft proofing in gimp (hope to finish it by this week) and my own library called maliwan which is almost working (there are a few shots annouced in its blog), after that I'll only concentrate on blu tulip, an imaging program. That's it, I'm pretty busy. But if anyone is interested by cairo-back development you can always checkout
back-cairo module from woom's cvs on savannah...
