If you have access to a separate console, you can get a backtrace that 
might show what is going on.  After the freeze, on the other console, 
get the process of the frozen app, then attach to it:

ps x | grep MyApp.app

note the process number "PID" (usually in the first column), then:

debugapp MyApp.app

> attach PID                 # (where PID is the process number)
