Concerning GCC 3.4 and Objective C:
The changes described indicates that Apple has
contributed back the gcc modifications they made
for edit and continue and other thing used in XCode.
But they also indicated that the Only objective C
runtime supporting theses functions is the NeXT runtime.
That would make gcc3.4 new objective C functions running
on only one platform (Darwin/OSX).
What do you think ? GNUStep on Linux would also gain
much from these modifications.
Anyone has higlight if this is a deliberate intention
to keep other unixes away from the inovations from Apple ?
Absolutely not -- the community is more than welcome to implement
said functionality in the GNU runtime. Should someone be willing
to take this on, I'd gladly put them in touch with Apple's
(NeXT) runtime folks.
Thanks,
