How does this relate to glitz and opengl?

Cairo has a glitz backend and I've heard it's quite impressive.
Unfortunately I keep hearing that its Xrender backend is horridly slow,
the problem may rely in xrender's on-screen compositing?

xrender backend is not a problem for me. I intend to use it on fbdev/dri not X. Im just about the amount of porting needed. It might be too much.

I just realized that making glitz work on miniglx is will require minimal porting.

Im just a little confused on how the gnustep backend sits in relation to cairo and the windowing system. How does the gnustep backend interface with X? And how does the window manager interact with gnustep?

Right now:

    gnustep -> back -> X

    How are events handled?

My plan is:

    gnustep -> cairo/glitz  -> miniglx/fbdev/dri

How does the window manager fit in?
