One thing I haven't decided on yet is the medium. I want to use

Have you considered DocBook XML? It's pretty straight forward (at
least when
compared to LaTeX and friends)
uh, I disagree, writing something in LaTeX is really simple :-)
and is finding widespread acceptance among
authors of technical documentation. Using FO you can make the stuff
look good
on paper (through conversion to PDF).
... but using docbook xml is probably better for converting across
formats than LaTeX.
For paper, I think it's better to convert docbook in latex than using
xsl-fo !
Pros:
* transparent format
* relatively easy to write in
Cons:
* no decent WYSIWYG editors (??)
* still looks like gibberish to unsophisticated users
BTW, the TOC looks promising. Mind if I help? I though this might also
be
a good place to suck up by mentioning that I really appreciate the
work your
doing on GORM - way to go dude!
Another possibility is to use a dedicated wiki, possibly with some
custom tags (for handling references, figures, that kind of things). I
guess there is already some wiki with theses kind of possibilities, no
?
The advantage is that it will be much easier for collaborating ...
