I think it would be pretty easy to implement this in terms of the 
GSReadRect: context op. Perhaps it's not great in terms of speed - but 
if speed (i.e. reading multiple pixels) is an issue, better to use 
[NSBitmapImageRep -initWithFocusedViewRect:] anyway.

Maybe someone should submit a bug/feature request...
