I also plan to install GNUStep. I am using debian unstable and since
GNUStep is in Debian unstable, it should not be too hard to install
it.
If you fail some way or the other, make sure to try again using current
cvs sources. While GNUstep is next to complete regarding OpenStep
compatibility, there still show up some nasty things from time to time
- they are fixed in cvs, first.
Now my question is, are there any "easy-to-do" jobs to help with
GNUStep and learn more about GNUStep?
In my personal opinion, one of the biggest hurdles for GNUstep becoming
the world's most famous Open Source project is it's installation
process. There are a lot of different files trying to explain things,
there are over a dozen dependencies, there are few step-by-step
instructions.
Tell us about your experience.
I know that in principle GNUStep could just use Apples Webkit if gcc
would support ObjC++. How far is ObjC++ from being incorporated into
gcc?
This is 99% a gcc thing. For definitive answers, you'd have to ask
there. For a rough estimate: chances are good to see it in gcc-3.4.
Are there any other interesting things a newbie to GNUStep could to
and which?
"port" the CurrencyConverter tutorial
<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/
ObjCTutorial/index.html> to GNUstep? Perhaps not a coding challenge,
but would help yourself a lot.
Cheers,
Markus
