Ah - that was a bug in the makefile - try again from trunk.

Makefile.preamble had not been updated to gnustep-make v2.0 yet ...   
In gnustep-make v1.x,
"debug" libraries had the special name gnustep-db2_d.so as opposed to  
gnustep-db2.so.
In gnustep-make v2.0, we no longer have this distinction - all  
libraries have the same name
no matter if they were compiled with debugging enabled or not.

Let me know if it works better now :-)
