The FTC_* stuff is the caching API that was added with FreeType 2.  If it's not 
present, then you probably have 1.x installed.  I didn't think GNUstep used 
FTC_* stuff internally (although I could be wrong), so it may be some other 
linked library (Cairo?) that is linked against the wrong version of FreeType?
