This problem is caused by a mismatch between you GNUstep base version 
and the GWorkspace version. You should upgrade your GNUstep base 
installation to a more current one. 1.23 should be fine. The background 
here is that about a year ago we decided to switch over to use the Apple 
runtime functions throughout of GNUstep and provide a fallback 
implementation for them in base.
