...and since I've failed to notice that the discussion on Git-vs-everything-else continued here, let me voice support for moving to Git.

If we do that, we're not locked into GitHub as such, and we could opt for different tools than what they provide, and still easily keep the repository in sync, and even allow contributors who signed the copyright assignment to work on GitHub-created forks before integrating the code back up.
