I did try on my FreeBSD x86/32 laptop with art and it does not cause 
problem. It is compiled with clang and not gcc, that might be a 
difference. I will check library versions and other things.

I will try on the problematic laptop to see how different optimization 
levels affect this, since we already mow that debug=yes hides the problem.
