Now I remember I also used 'sudo -E' when compiling apps.
I think it is not easy to discover.
Is it documented in GNUstep documentation somewhere?
Perhaps in the case the build process fails, it can output a more useful error
message about this such as "Environment looks incomplete, are you running 'make
install' with 'sudo -E'?"
