I was actually about mention this too.   This is built into gnustep-make.  You can find examples in both libs-base and libs-gui on how to use it.   Tests for libs-gui need to be more complete.

don't forget that GNUstep make itself has provision to run tests, you
can look at how tests are run in libs-base and libs-gui; it is very
convenient tun run and check the results.
