Artifact on program startup

One thing I find happening in all environments I’ve tried – which is FreeBSD, and several Ubuntu desktop environments. Whenever I launch a gnustep gui application, there is a tiny window that flashes on the screen in the upper left about 100 pixels down and maybe 100 pixels square. It flashes so quickly that I can’t accurately tell the size or what’s in it.  

Is there any setting that will disable that little ‘mini-me’ window?
